    Signature + metadata detection

    AI Image Detector

Upload any image to check for signs of AI generation. Looks for AI signatures and metadata (C2PA / Content Credentials, generation metadata, generator tags) and adds soft visual heuristics. Free account required. 100% client-side — nothing leaves your device.

    How it decides

    Signature-First, Honest by Design

Detection is signature- and metadata-first. Visual heuristics are a weak secondary cue — never treated as proof on their own, and never used to assert that an image is authentic.

    Signature

    Content Credentials (C2PA)

Scans the file for embedded C2PA / Content Credentials manifests and generative provenance markers — the strongest available evidence that an image was AI-generated.

    Signature

    Generation Metadata

Reads PNG text chunks (parameters, prompt, ComfyUI workflow) and IPTC/XMP AI markers (trainedAlgorithmicMedia) left behind by Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI, Automatic1111 and others.

    Signature

    Generator Software Tags

Matches EXIF/XMP software fields against known image generators such as Midjourney, DALL·E, Firefly, Leonardo and Flux.

    Heuristic

    Visual Smoothness & Noise

A soft heuristic that flags unusually smooth, low-noise surfaces common in diffusion output. Weak on its own — it can nudge a result toward 'inconclusive' but is never treated as proof.

    Heuristic

    High-Frequency Texture

A soft heuristic using Laplacian texture analysis to check whether fine detail resembles real-world photos. Inconclusive alone and easily altered by editing.

    Core

    Honest, Transparent Scoring

A detected AI signature (C2PA, embedded generation metadata, or a generator tag) is highly reliable. Without one, the visual heuristics are weak — treat a clear result as a strong hint, not forensic proof.

    How AI Detection Works

    01

    Upload your image

Drag & drop any JPEG, PNG, WebP, or TIFF file. The image stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

    02

    Signature & metadata scan

The file is scanned for C2PA / Content Credentials manifests, PNG generation metadata, IPTC/XMP AI markers, and generator software tags — the strongest available evidence of AI generation.

    03

    Visual heuristics

If no signature is found, soft pixel cues (noise, smoothness, high-frequency texture, color entropy) provide a weak, inconclusive secondary signal.

    04

    Verdict

A detected AI signature yields a near-certain verdict. Otherwise a 0–100 score maps to Likely Real Photo / Mixed Signals / Likely AI-Generated — a signature can never be diluted by smooth pixels.

    05

    Result & breakdown

You get the verdict plus a per-signal breakdown, so you can judge each indicator individually. A heuristic result is not forensic proof.

100% Private — Zero Data Collection

Every analysis step runs entirely in your browser using Canvas API and JavaScript math operations. No pixels, no metadata, no thumbnails ever leave your device. There is no server, no API call, and no telemetry. We literally cannot see what you upload.

Find Where Any Photo Was Taken

Our AI Location Search analyzes architecture, signs, vegetation, and landscape clues to pinpoint photo locations worldwide — no GPS data needed.

Free account required. Includes 3 free analyses per month.

    AI Detector FAQ

How does the AI detector work?

Detection is signature- and metadata-first: it scans for C2PA / Content Credentials, PNG generation metadata, IPTC/XMP AI markers, and generator software tags. If none are present, soft visual heuristics (noise, smoothness, high-frequency texture, color entropy) give a weak secondary cue.

    Is this AI detector accurate?

No detector can guarantee accuracy. A detected AI signature is highly reliable; without one, the visual heuristics are weak and a low score is a heuristic estimate — not forensic proof that the image is real.

Which AI tools can it detect?

Signature detection reliably flags images that still carry AI provenance — C2PA, embedded generation metadata (Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI, Automatic1111), or software tags from Midjourney, DALL·E, Firefly, Leonardo and Flux. Images stripped of all such metadata can only be judged by weak visual cues.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. All analysis runs 100% in your browser using the File and Canvas APIs. Your image never leaves your device.

Why does it sometimes say 'inconclusive'?

When an image carries no AI signature or metadata, only weak visual heuristics remain. These cannot reliably separate a modern AI image from a compressed real photo, so the honest answer is 'inconclusive' rather than a false yes or no.

Can I use this to verify photos for journalism?

Yes — as one input among many. A detected signature is strong evidence; absence of indicators is not. Combine it with reverse image search, EXIF analysis, and contextual verification.
