    What Is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It records technical details like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, and — if location services are enabled — GPS coordinates.

EXIF data is invaluable for photographers reviewing settings, investigators verifying image authenticity, and anyone trying to determine when and where a photo was taken. However, it can also be a privacy risk: sharing photos with GPS EXIF data can reveal your home address, workplace, or daily routine.

Use our Metadata Cleaner to strip EXIF data before sharing photos publicly.

    EXIF Viewer FAQ

    Is this EXIF tool free?

Free account required. Includes 2 free uses per tool. Paid plans unlock unlimited uses.

    Is it private?

Yes. Your image stays local in your browser and is never uploaded to any server.

    Can I check GPS tags?

If GPS EXIF metadata exists, we show coordinates on a map plus links to Google Maps and Street View.

    Which formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, and WebP. JPEG images typically contain the most EXIF data.

What EXIF fields can I see?

Camera make/model, lens info, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, flash status, white balance, GPS coordinates, timestamps, software used, and copyright tags.

    Do screenshots have EXIF data?

Screenshots typically have minimal EXIF data — usually just dimensions and a timestamp. They rarely contain GPS or camera info since they are generated by software, not a camera sensor.

    Does social media strip EXIF?

Most platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) strip EXIF data on upload. If you download an image from social media and check it here, GPS and camera tags will likely be missing.

    Can EXIF data be faked?

Yes. EXIF is editable with specialized tools. For forensic verification, combine EXIF analysis with our Tamper Heatmap and Reverse Image Search tools.
